The Uganda Free Zones Authority has issued Blockchain Technologies Ltd. a developer’s license to establish a free zone, the first of its kind in Africa, that will focus on Blockchain and emerging technologies.

The free zone will attract and host global companies in the digital market space, creating an environment where digital innovations can be set up, tested and commercialized with incentives and a supportive regulatory framework.

When fully operational, the free zone will have many benefits to Uganda, including increased Foreign Direct Investment, a more vibrant innovation ecosystem and increased job creation. This is in alignment with the government’s commitment to promote ICT and innovation as a cornerstone for national development, as articulated in Uganda’s Vision 2040.

Uganda is the first country in Africa to issue this kind of license, and the free zone will position the nation as a continental leader in blockchain technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. At the license ceremony, the acting Executive Director of Freezones Authority commended Blockchain Technologies Ltd, and its parent company CryptoSavannah, for being forward thinking. The free zone will have several incentives that will attract foreign direct investment, and provide an opportunity for young innovators to generate interest and investment in their ideas and products.

CryptoSavannah is proud to be part of this momentous occasion and looks forward to working with Uganda Free Zones Authority for the successful operationalization of the free zone.

This week has been one the most important for the Africa Blockchain Conference, but more so, one of the most important in Uganda’s digital transformation and national development.

When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon 50 years ago, he muttered the historic words “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” These words have continued to reverberate throughout history when a seemingly ordinary act carries the weight of monumental importance.

This week, President Yoweri Museveni launched Uganda’s National Taskforce on the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), a feat akin to “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” in the context of Uganda’s digital transformation. As he launched the Taskforce, the President described the 4th Industrial Revolution as a new capacity in the human race, and reminded the nation that the primer of all social change was the advancement of science and technology, which must be integrated in order to use it well.

The appointment of a team to domesticate the 4th Industrial Revolution is a great step we celebrate as a nation, and is one we celebrate as the conference team because the creation of the Taskforce was a commitment made at last year’s conference by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.

As we celebrate this progress made from the 2018 conference, we are excited about the 2019 conference themed Africa 4.0, and look forward to creating and consolidating more such opportunities to which we can one day applaud as “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”

We look forward to your participation at the 2019 conference !

We are excited this week to launch our preparations for the Africa Blockchain Conference 2019. The next 12 weeks will be an exciting journey, and through these weekly email letters, we will keep you abreast of every step of that journey.

When we began preparing for last year’s Africa Blockchain Conference, few expected the type of impact that it would have, among which few included ourselves as the organizing team. The conference in 2018 hosted 800 people from 32 countries, comprising global industry and policy leaders, the President of Uganda, the 6th President of Mauritius, the Governor or the Central Bank, the CEO of Binance the largest crypto exchange in the world, the Chair of the Bankers Association and many others. More importantly however were the partnerships that were signed, the investment opportunities and jobs that were created, and the decisions taken that have since informed national policy.

As we embark on the 12 week journey ahead of us, we know the potential impact of the next Africa Blockchain Conference, and have hence begun diligently working towards the conference whose theme this year “Africa 4.0” will focus on “Preparing Africa for the 4th Industrial Revolution.” If you are unfamiliar with the 4th Industrial Revolution, or the terms 4IR or Industry 4.0, then this conference is for you; if you are however already familiar with 4IR, then this conference is also for you, in other words, this conference is for all of us. The 4th Industrial Revolution is already upon us, and rather than waiting to be impacted by it, we must consciously engage and prepare our selves, our systems, our nations, and our posterity for this inevitability on the horizon.

As we today launch our preparations, we invite you to visit and register on our website www.africa4ir.com which will continue to update over the next 12 weeks. Our team remains committed to attend to any queries and suggestions for improvement, and we look forward to experiencing this journey together.

Welcome to the Africa Blockchain Conference 2019 !
